Adjunct Professor in Genomics Technology

The Department of Biological Chemistry is recruiting adjunct faculty as part of a UCI initiative in genomics and precision health.

We are seeking outstanding applicants in the area of genomics technologies to manage a center for innovation in and applications of technologies applied to samples for genomics analysis from inside and outside the UCI community. These samples are anticipated to require technologies ranging from exome or genome sequencing to optical mapping on a range of scales, single-cell and bulk transcriptome sequencing and primary analysis, epigenome, and multi-ome analyses, and spatial transcriptomics.

Responsibilities will include training staff, advising users, and implementing successful workflows. Successful candidates will be responsible for lecturing in graduate level courses; providing monthly lectures to physician scientists in UCIMC; organizing bimonthly wet lab classes; and providing lectures on genomics technology in the annual Complex Biological Systems Bootcamp for incoming graduate students in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Mathematical, Computational and Systems Biology. Candidates will be responsible for maintaining a high performance of the testing laboratory based on rigorous training of staff for performance and efficiency, ability to encourage teamwork, ability to work with clients ranging from students to faculty, and attention to and implementation of innovations in genomics research. This high level of performance must be based on awareness of developments in the field of genomics and technical level of understanding of each of the assays in the facility and rooting in statistics sufficient to guide users in the strategic decisions related to experimental design. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate research skills with respect to technology innovation and implementation and to have collaborative publications. Although not required to have PI status, successful individuals must demonstrate substantive contributions to research grants through funding, co-authorships, providing source documentation, and acknowledgments.

Location of work may accommodate some hybrid format but be generally on site, as is appropriate for fulfillment of these responsibilities. Appointments will be in the School of Medicine and candidates may be eligible to participate in the comp plan when their appointment is at 51% or greater. Starting appointments are for one year.
