Position Summary

The School of Hospitality Business in the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University is seeking applications for a non-tenure stream, fixed-term, part-time, faculty member with responsibilities in teaching undergraduate students. This is a recurring appointment, with the position subject to annual review and renewal.  Start date is August 16, 2022.

The fixed-term faculty member will teach one section of HB 237 Lodging Operations (3 credits) each fall and one section each spring semester. The course provides students a thorough understanding of the business of lodging including the various business models prevalent in the lodging industry.  The course ensures the students understand the complete process of check-in, check-out, guest relations, billing and accounting, lodging operations technologies, the key operational metrics prevalent in the industry, and their use to optimize departmental profitability.  The class will be conducted at the Kellogg Conference Center and Hotel (may change based on contingencies) and will include practical workshops at the hotel front office.  The faculty member will have access to student learning assistant/s to support the course. Teaching responsibilities may change, within the applicant’s area of expertise, based on the needs of The School of Hospitality Business.  There are no research requirements for this position.

Required Degree

Masters -Hospitality

Minimum Requirements

A Masters Degree in Hospitality Business or equivalent is preferred or a Bachelors degree with significant experience working in hotels (preferably in lodging operations).

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have work experience within hospitality industry lodging operations. Intimate knowledge of the latest advances in lodging operations and the application of technology is an advantage. Experience and a reputation for excellent teaching at the undergraduate level to a diverse student body is desired.
