Position description

The Department of Scandinavian at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Arctic Studies, with an emphasis in Indigenous Studies.

The successful applicant will be able to contribute to a comparative model of Nordic scholarship. In addition, the department has interest in a candidate with expertise in at least one of the following fields: Cultural History, Film and Media, Environmental Humanities, Gender Studies , and/or Post-Colonial Studies.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

PhD (or equivalent international degree), or enrolled in PhD or equivalent international degree-granting program at the time of application

Preferred qualifications

Completion of the Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) by the start date of the position.

Native or near-native competence in one or more indigenous Nordic languages (Inuit and/or Sámi languages), in one or more modern Nordic languages, and in English.

Strong demonstrated ability for successful research, teaching, and administrative service.
