Assistant Professor (Cosmology)

The Physics Department at Cornell University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position pursuing observational and/or experimental cosmology research. Candidates with millimeter or submillimeter instrumentation and data analysis experience who have the desire to collaborate on the Cornell-led CCAT-prime project are of particular interest. The CCAT-prime telescope is a high-throughput 6 meter aperture telescope that is now under construction and will be built at a high-elevation site in Chile with first light expected in 2022. This project is an ongoing international collaboration that includes research groups in both the Cornell Physics and Astronomy Departments. Cornell researchers are involved in several related cosmic microwave background projects, including the Atacama Cosmology Telescope, the Simons Observatory, and CMB-S4, and are interested in combining measurements from CCAT-prime with these and future panchromatic and multi-messenger surveys.
We particularly encourage applicants from groups that are underrepresented in physical sciences, such as women; Black, American Indian, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander, and Latinx scholars; as well as individuals with disabilities, and protected veterans. We seek candidates with an established record of high-impact research to conduct an independent research program and to teach and advise our undergraduate and graduate students. A Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field is required. Our intent is to hire at the assistant professor level, but more senior appointments may also be considered.
