The University of Texas at Austin, Department of Special Education is seeking a tenure-track faculty member in Equity and Diversity in Special Education at the Assistant Professor level. The mission of the program area is to advance equity and justice at the intersections of dis/ability, race, social class, gender, sexuality, migration, and language in education and society. Qualifications

Strong candidates will have an emerging body of research, evidence of high impact publications, and strong potential for acquiring research funding. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to instructional practices, policies, and programs that enhance equitable opportunities for individuals with disabilities and families, particularly those from historically marginalized backgrounds. The faculty member will bring critical theories and methods to their research—including but not limited to disability studies in education, intersectionality, critical race theory, and multilingualism and language acquisition. Duties include teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in special education, advising students, and contributing to the overall refinement of our undergraduate and graduate programs. Candidates who have a record of serving and partnering with culturally diverse and minoritized communities across multiple levels of educational systems (e.g., schools, districts, higher education) will be strongly considered. Applicants should also have a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring with a focus on enhancing equity and inclusion in the field and in practice.

The faculty member will join colleagues who work across our nationally ranked College of Education on research and projects related to enhancing diversity and equity. Scholars of underrepresented groups in academia and candidates with experience in culturally and linguistically diverse settings are strongly encouraged to apply. Hiring is contingent upon funding.
