The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, New Jersey, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor in Global Studies-Asia, beginning September 2022. Regional and disciplinary focus is open, but broad grounding in the humanities with ability to include Southeast Asia in their teaching is a plus, as well as willingness to support Asian American and Asian diaspora initiatives at the university. The successful candidate must demonstrate (1) commitment to an innovative research agenda in Global Studies-Asia going beyond conventional Asian Studies; (2) expert knowledge of one or more Asian country and language; and (3) willingness to contribute actively to developing our graduate and undergraduate programs in Asian Studies, including cross-listing course offerings with other departments at Rutgers-New Brunswick. Candidates with multi/interdisciplinary, interregional, and transnational expertise able to complement the research and teaching of departmental faculty will be especially valued. This position is part of a Humanities hiring cluster in Global Asias, involving several tenure-track positions, with potential for collaboration with colleagues both inside and outside of the department, including the School of Arts and Sciences’ ongoing interdisciplinary research collaborative in Global Asias and the new Institute for the Study of Global Racial Justice.
