Assistant Professor in Media Studies

The Department of Cinema and Media Studies at The University of Chicago is seeking applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor expected to begin July 1, 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter. Applications are invited across a range of specializations in digital media studies. These include (but are not limited to) digital media theory, game studies and design, transnational media practices, infrastructure, social media, animation, media archaeology, software and platform studies, and emerging media that emphasizes theories of race, class, gender, or sexuality. Candidates with a digital and interactive media production background that combines theory and practice are particularly encouraged to apply. 


Candidates should have demonstrable research distinction, as well as evidence of excellence in teaching. They should be qualified both to teach introductory and required courses in cinema and media theory and history, and to direct doctoral theses. All requirements for receipt of the Ph.D. must be completed prior to the start of the position.
