Position Overview
ASD invites applications for an Assistant Professor with expertise in community design, sustainability, art and drawing, and technology. The successful candidate will play a critical role in advancing interdisciplinary research and education at the intersection of architecture, design, and technology, contributing to a curriculum that emphasizes environmental resilience, social impact, and digital literacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching and Curriculum Development:
- Design and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in community design, sustainability, architectural drawing, and digital technology in design.
- Foster critical and creative thinking in students through courses in drawing, sketching, and other visual communication skills.
- Mentor students in their academic and project work, guiding them toward innovative and sustainable solutions.
- Develop curricula that advance ASD’s vision of sustainability, technology integration, and community-centered design.
- Research and Scholarship:
- Conduct and publish original research on community-centric sustainable architecture, urban design, and the role of technology in modern architecture.
- Collaborate with local and international partners to develop impactful research projects that align with ASD’s focus on sustainable urban solutions.
- Pursue interdisciplinary projects that explore the integration of technology with sustainable community design and its practical applications.
- Community Engagement and Outreach:
- Actively engage with community stakeholders, using design as a tool to address societal needs and to foster sustainable, community-centered solutions.
- Lead initiatives that promote architectural knowledge exchange between SUTD and local communities, strengthening ASD’s commitment to real-world impact.
- Organize workshops, exhibitions, and events that showcase student and faculty projects, fostering public awareness and appreciation of sustainable design.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Architecture or a closely related field, with specialization in one or more of the following areas: community design, sustainability, architectural drawing, and technology in architecture.
- Demonstrated teaching excellence and experience in curriculum development, particularly in areas related to sustainable and community-focused design.
- Strong research portfolio with publications in reputable journals, and a proven ability to secure research funding.
- A commitment to collaboration, community engagement, and an interdisciplinary approach to architecture and design.
