Position Overview

The Department of Classical Studies seeks an Assistant Professor for the Modern Greek Language and Literature programme. The role combines teaching, research, and administrative duties.

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Deliver lectures and courses in Bachelor’s, Master’s, and lifelong learning programmes

  • Supervise and advise Bachelor’s and Master’s theses (occasionally doctoral theses)

  • Contribute to curriculum and pedagogical organization

  • Participate in publication activity for educational purposes

Research Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent research and publish in peer-reviewed journals or monographs

  • Present research at domestic and international conferences

  • Participate in research organization and development

Administrative/Other Duties:

  • Routine administrative tasks, course management, and e-learning

  • Organize student and staff internships, support field promotion


Candidate Requirements

Education & Expertise:

  • Ph.D. in Modern Greek philology or closely related field (required)

  • Specialization in Modern Greek literature or socio-political/cultural topics in Modern Greek studies

  • Ability to teach both literature-focused and core language courses

Language Skills:

  • Modern Greek: CEFR C1 or higher (required)

  • English: CEFR B2 or higher (required)

  • Czech language not required

Other Skills:

  • Teaching, mentoring, presentation, and organizational skills

  • Ability to conduct independent research and publish

  • Experience in university environment and prior teaching is an advantage

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Publications in internationally indexed journals (Web of Science / Scopus) in the past 3 years

  • Participation in international research projects
