The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University announces an open competition for the position of:
Assistant / Assistant Professor specializing in Information Services Design
The Department of Information Studies and Librarianship is seeking an assistant or assistant professor to strengthen teaching activities and participate in research and project work. The position combines design approaches with information services, with a strong focus on teaching, supervision of final theses, and student development, alongside collaboration on research, publications, and dissemination.
The candidate should develop one or more specializations, such as:
Design thinking and design methods in practice
Design research (Research through Design, participatory approaches, living labs)
Interaction design and digital interface design
Service design and innovation in public or community contexts
Inclusive design and accessibility
Instructional design and educational experience design
Design ethics, critical and speculative approaches
Service design in practice and public or community contexts, including:
design related to misinformation and information resilience
design related to artificial intelligence and its impacts
design related to health and sustainability
Participation in teaching in the areas of design, research, and evaluation (seminars, exercises, workshops), including continuous development of teaching content and formats
Supervision and consultation of Bachelor’s and Master’s theses, providing methodological support and guiding students toward high-quality research and design outputs
Collaboration on departmental research and development projects, including publications and professional outputs
Application of participatory and facilitative approaches in work with students and external partners, including workshop facilitation and joint design validation
Contribution to dissemination activities such as conference presentations, methodological materials, and popularization activities
Completed Master’s degree in a related field (information studies, design, HCI, education, social sciences, computer science, etc.) – required
Completed or ongoing PhD doctoral program – preferred
International profile (e.g. research outputs, internships) – advantage
Experience leading student projects, mentoring, or supervising research – advantage
Experience with applied projects outside academia and participatory/living lab approaches – advantage
Experience in data analysis (e.g. behavioral metrics, experiments) or prototyping and evaluation (including 3D/VR/XR) – advantage
Advanced ability to apply AI tools in the design process – advantage
English language proficiency at least at B2 level
Excellent knowledge of Czech language, written and spoken
Demonstrable expertise in at least one specialist area with the ability to transfer this expertise to teaching and student supervision
Experience with research methods and evaluation, ability to design procedures, analyze data, and present conclusions clearly
Teaching and facilitation skills, including structured instruction and constructive feedback
Independence, reliability, strong organizational skills, and willingness to collaborate in an interdisciplinary environment
Knowledge of the university environment
