Assistant Professor of Biomedical Sciences

University of Queensland

About This Opportunity

The School of Biomedical Sciences teaches into 14 undergraduate programs at The University of Queensland. Apply for a Casual Academic position within our School if you would like to support teaching in the areas of anatomy, physiology, or pharmacology.

Casual academics play a vital role in teaching and learning. The School of Biomedical Sciences employs Casual academics to assist teaching staff in the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology courses. These are casual academic appointments. As such, there is no firm advance commitment to ongoing or indefinite work. The casual rate will vary depending on the type of work completed. Please view our various casual academic pay scales.

High-achieving undergraduate students, postgraduate coursework and research higher degree students are invited to apply. The School also welcomes applications from non-students who possessappropriate qualifications.

Selection is on a combination of merit and School needs. Casual academics appointed previously will only be re-appointed if prior performance has been exemplary. Please read the duty statement for information on the role and the selection criteria for eligibility.

Applications for Semester 1 2025 will open on Friday 1 November 2024 and close on Tuesday 7 January 2025.

Applicants are asked to indicate their academic background, teaching experience and course preferences. This information will be considered in matching casual academics to course requirements. Selections are made in consultation with Course Coordinators.

Along with completing the application form, you will also need to submit your CV/Resume, Academic Transcript, and cover letter.

Most allocations occur before the beginning of semester but are not necessarily final until Week 3 of semester. A Casual academic may see a reduction in allocated hours or be assigned to a different course - this does not reflect on the Casual academic involved as it is usually due to unresolved timetabling constraints or fluctuations in enrolments.

New applicants must be available for compulsory training sessions scheduled for the week prior to the start of semester.

Casual Academics are appointed on the basis of their academic qualifications and experience, they should possess the requisite knowledge for the course or the ability to acquire such through independent learning. All appointed Casual Academics should familiarise themselves with the lecture and practical material for their course prior to the commencement of classes.
