Position Description

The Yale School of the Environment (YSE) invites applications for an assistant professor position in Business & the Environment, Sustainable Finance, or Environmental Markets. We seek scholars whose research connects business or finance and the environment or natural resources to join a vibrant interdisciplinary community.

This position is intentionally wide in scope. We welcome applicants from any area of business, finance, economics, marketing, supply-chain management, environmental markets, or related interdisciplinary fields. Applicants should demonstrate potential to publish in top journals while collaborating with other scholars in the School of Environment.

Examples of Research Focus

Research areas may include, but are not limited to:

  • Connections between financial and environmental risks and their management, including insurance and risk-management innovation.
  • Financing solutions for conservation, climate adaptation, or biodiversity.
  • Commodity, natural resource, or environmental markets (timber, critical minerals, oil and gas, carbon or conservation credits, etc.).
  • Marketing and consumer behavior related to conservation and the environment.
  • Environmental management within procurement, supplier reliability, supply chains, and logistics.
  • Land markets, investment, easements, extraction rights, and transactions.
  • Environmental connections to tax strategy.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will:

  • Have or show strong potential to develop an internationally recognized research program that connects business or finance and the environment or natural resources.
  • Be enthusiastic about teaching business-related topics to master's and PhD students in the Yale School of the Environment and in The Forest School, which is part of the School of the Environment.
  • Mentor YSE graduate students.
  • Have a PhD in finance, marketing, business, supply chain & logistics, economics, or an interdisciplinary PhD with evidence of strong relevant PhD-level training.
