Subject Field

Biocatalysis for Green Chemistry

Subject Description

Biocatalysis for Green Chemistry combines design and engineering of enzymes with biocatalytic processes for green-chemistry applications. These processes use enzymes to convert starting materials, such as renewable resources or building blocks for chiral compounds, into value-added (often chiral) compounds. Green chemistry focuses on production of chemicals through sustainable processes. This position focuses on using biocatalysis for green-chemical production.

Duties

  • Set up and manage an independent research team in Biocatalysis for Green Chemistry, complementing and collaborating with existing groups in the School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health (CBH).

  • Initiate new research projects, acquire funding, establish collaborations, and train and coach students and young researchers at MSc, PhD, and postdoctoral levels.

  • Manage the group’s economy and maintain a safe, stimulating, and healthy work environment.

  • Coordinate and develop courses at BSc or MSc level and supervise master’s and PhD students.

  • Represent KTH, CBH, and the Department of Industrial Biotechnology in scientific presentations, networks, and leadership initiatives in Biocatalysis for Green Chemistry nationally and internationally.

  • Participate in the Mistra leadership programme designed by the Swedish foundation for strategic environmental research.

  • Opportunity to develop independence as a researcher and eligibility to apply for promotion to associate professor in accordance with Chapter 4, Section 12 c of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance.
