Position Summary

The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS), invites applications for an academic tenure-track position within the Department of Family Medicine at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement. This position is part of the Alberta Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP) and offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities

This full-time (1.0 FTE) tenure-track position comprises:

  • 50% clinical workplace-based teaching

  • 50% academic pursuits, including research (20%), teaching (10%), and administration (20%)

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead and promote quality improvement (QI) activities within the department

  • Align QI initiatives with provincial standards and national priorities

  • Serve as Director of Quality Improvement, providing training in residency and advancing QI through education, research, leadership, and clinical teaching

  • Deliver educational sessions, develop curriculum materials, and integrate QI principles into undergraduate and postgraduate training

  • Mentor faculty and residents in QI projects, fostering interprofessional collaboration

  • Contribute to QI scholarship and applied research in partnership with organizations like Physician Learning Program and Primary Care Alberta

  • Oversee departmental QI strategy and represent the department on institutional and provincial committees

  • Engage in academic activities including research, medical education, and leadership opportunities


Qualifications

Required:

  • MD degree (or equivalent) with board certification in Family Medicine

  • Certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada

  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)

  • Experience in implementation science and quality improvement in clinical and/or academic settings

Assets:

  • Advanced training or certification in QI (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, IHI, CQI)

  • Experience in curriculum development, teaching, and mentorship in QI

  • Demonstrated scholarship in applied QI research and collaboration with health system partners

  • Skills in data analysis, clinical informatics, or population health

  • Effective leadership, communication, and collaboration abilities

  • Graduate training in a relevant field

Remuneration: Commensurate with qualifications and experience, supported through AMHSP. Start-up funding available.
