The Department of Economics in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto, St. George Campus, invites applications for one full-time tenure stream appointment in the area of General Economics. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.
Candidates must have earned a PhD in Economics or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching in Economics, specializing in applied microeconomics and with research focused on structural empirical methods. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement our existing departmental strengths.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level.
Establish an outstanding, competitive, externally funded research program.
Contribute to both undergraduate and graduate teaching.
Actively participate in the intellectual life of the department.
Research Excellence must be demonstrated through:
An innovative job market paper with a significant contribution to the literature.
Strong recommendations by referees of high standing.
Submitted research statement.
High-quality working papers.
Record of publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards.
Presentations at significant conferences.
Accolades and awards.
Teaching Excellence must be demonstrated through:
Teaching accomplishments.
Strong letters of reference.
Teaching dossier (including statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi, and teaching evaluations or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities).
Additional teaching-related activities such as experience as a teaching assistant or instructor, leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations/posters.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
