About the Role

University of Nottingham Ningbo China is seeking to recruit an Assistant Professor in Applied Linguistics and ELT in the School of Education and English.

The School of Education and English is now looking for an ambitious, talented, and experienced academic with a passion for teaching and a well-developed research profile to join its team of scholars in the field of Applied Linguistics, with special emphasis on quantitative analysis and language acquisition.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Contribute to teaching, curriculum development and supervision within the undergraduate English and Applied Linguistics programme.
  • Teach on the following postgraduate taught (PGT) programmes:Provide supervision for the School’s growing numbers of PhD and EdD students.
    • MA in Applied Linguistics
    • MA TESOL
  • Take a lead role in collaborative research projects.
  • Conduct original research that results in presentations and publications of a high international standing in relevant and recognised areas of Applied Linguistics and ELT.

About You

Candidates must:

  • Have completed a doctoral degree in Applied Linguistics or a closely related field.
  • Have recent experience of teaching across a range of undergraduate and MA modules.
  • Have experience of successfully supervising PGT (Master’s) and PhD students.
  • Have knowledge of and experience with quantitative research methods.
  • Have experience with AI in language acquisition and language assessment practices (highly desirable).

The advertised position will be filled at an appropriate point on the Assistant Professor salary scale based upon prior experience and current academic rank.

The successful candidate will initially be offered a fixed-term contract of up to 5 years, which may then be extended by mutual agreement.
