Assistant Professor of English

Job Description:

The Department of English Language and Literature in the College of Arts and Science at GUST invites applicants for a full-time faculty position in Composition/Rhetoric/Academic Writing starting in Fall 2024. The ideal candidate should hold a PhD in Composition/Rhetoric/Academic Writing, preferably with a knowledge of Technical and Professional writing.  In addition, candidates should provide evidence of continuous current professional activity including publications in academic journals. Preference will be given to candidates with the rank of Assistant Professor however, those who qualify for appointment at higher ranks are also encouraged to apply. The State of Kuwait does not recognize degrees from online universities.

The successful candidate will teach Technical and Business Writing to undergraduate students. The teaching load will be split between the three courses based on the needs of the Department. In addition to teaching and service, it is expected to maintain an increasingly significant professional and/or scholarly practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must have completed a PhD in Composition/Rhetoric/Academic Writing or associated field from a reputable North American or Western European university with at least three years of teaching experience after the doctoral degree. He/she should have a strong commitment to quality teaching, and be active in research. The ideal candidate must be ambitious, self-motivated, and hard-working, with the ability to work both individually and as part of a team. Candidates should use technology in all aspects of their teaching and possess experience using a variety of online platforms and teaching tools, implement current teaching and assessment of student learning practices, foster a successful learning environment for all students. Candidates should possess the ability to actively participate in faculty committees and are expected to publish high-quality research in leading peer-reviewed journals.

Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST):

Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) was established in 2002 as Kuwait's first private American-model liberal arts university and affiliated with the Missouri University of Science and Technology (MS&T) & UMSL. GUST currently offers several programs in Arts and Sciences and Business, including an MBA degree.
