Who Are We Looking For
We are looking for a colleague to join the Department of English and American Studies specializing in:
- British literature
- British history
- British culture
- Anglophone literary history
- literary and cultural theory
Beyond this focus, the applicant should be capable of:
- leading English language seminars (C2 level)
- teaching courses in English language teacher education for higher secondary schools focused on literature and culture of English-speaking countries
The successful candidate should aim at academic advancement (associate professorship, full professorship), expand their portfolio of courses beyond literature, cultural studies and English language, and align with current developments in the field.
Expected teaching areas include:
- Introduction to Literary Studies
- Introduction to the Studies of British History and Culture
- History of English Literature 3 (19th century and early 20th century)
- Anglophone novel
- Anglophone poetry
- Anglophone women writers
- Contemporary Anglophone literature
Main Job Content
Pedagogical Activities
- Participating in lectures or other forms of teaching in Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes, as well as lifelong learning programmes
- Supervising, consulting, or reviewing Bachelor’s and Master’s theses
- In exceptional cases, serving as supervisor or consultant in doctoral programmes
- Participating in the organisational provision of pedagogical activities
- Participating in publishing activities, especially for educational purposes
Research Activities
Participation in research, development, and innovation activities, especially:
- Independent investigation of complex research and development tasks and publication of results in peer-reviewed journals, scientific monographs, or peer-reviewed proceedings
- Active participation in domestic and international scientific conferences and professional meetings
- Presentation of research results
- Participation in the organisational provision of research activities
Other Responsibilities
Participation in operational and administrative activities related to the academic position according to the instructions of the department head, including:
- Administrative tasks connected with own courses
- Use of e-learning and communication with students via the MU Information System
- Organising and participating in foreign internships for students and academic staff
- Participation in promotion of the field
We Request
Professional Education, Qualifications and Experience
Required
- Master’s Degree in English Language and Literature (or related field)
- Ph.D. in English Literature (or related field)
- Knowledge of English at C2 level
Advantage
- Master’s Degree in Teaching English Language and Literature (or related field)
- Expertise in British literature, British history, British culture, Anglophone literary history, literary and cultural theory
- Ability to teach English language seminars and teacher education courses
- At least 3 years of experience in English language and literature
- Excellent written and spoken Czech or Slovak
International Experience Requirement
Professional experience abroad outside the Czech Republic and Slovakia in an academic or research institution for at least 6 months, either continuously or in shorter combined periods.
Applicants who do not meet this requirement may request an exception with a brief explanation.
