The Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment in the Finance Area. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.
Applicants must have earned a PhD in Finance or a cognate discipline with a focus on finance (e.g., Economics) by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in both research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance existing strengths in the Finance Area.
Candidates must demonstrate research excellence in Finance, as shown through:
A job-market paper and additional research papers or publications.
A research statement outlining current and future research interests.
Strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.
Evidence of ability to publish in top-tier finance journals such as:
Journal of Finance
Review of Financial Studies
Journal of Financial Economics
Or other journals of similar calibre.
Further evidence includes conference presentations, awards, accolades, and invited research talks at leading institutions.
The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research, develop an outstanding research program, and publish at the highest level.
Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching, including:
Strong ability to integrate theory and practice.
Evidence of effective communication and presentation skills.
Willingness to supervise graduate students.
Demonstrated mastery of subject area.
Evidence will be provided through:
Teaching dossier, including a teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations.
Letters of reference addressing teaching ability.
Strong performance in the on-campus seminar presentation (for short-listed candidates).
Additional teaching-related activities, e.g.,
Superior performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor.
Experience leading workshops or seminars.
Student mentorship.
Excellent conference presentations.
