Title of Post: Assistant Professor in Human Geography
The School of History and Geography invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Human Geography.
UL Geography is a dynamic and interdisciplinary group of academics, with research strengths including population and migration, humanitarian entrepreneurship, climate and environmental change, digital and spatial humanities, cultural and historical geography, river management and conservation, natural hazards and risk management, geospatial data science, and urban ecosystem services. Our staff have secured national, EU, and international funding, and contribute to impactful research addressing major societal challenges.
We seek to appoint a scholar with expertise in economic, political, and/or urban–rural geography who will strengthen the discipline’s research profile and deliver high quality, research-led teaching.
The successful candidate will join a collegial and ambitious school committed to excellence in scholarship, teaching, and societal engagement. The appointee will be required to compete for national and international research funding aligned with their area of expertise and the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Research Funding Themes.

Expected Start Date: January 2027
Salary Scale: €49,424 - €67,221 per annum
