About the Position

Karolinska Institutet (KI) is recruiting researchers as part of the SciLifeLab Fellows program. Successful candidates will join KI and conduct research at the Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) within a vibrant community of researchers from all SciLifeLab host universities at SciLifeLab Campus Solna.

Objective: Develop world-leading independent biomedical research in one or several fields of interest to SciLifeLab and KI. This position is temporary for a maximum of six years and focuses on research, with possible teaching and management tasks.

Promotion: Opportunity to be promoted from Assistant Professor to Senior Lecturer.


SciLifeLab Overview

SciLifeLab is a collaboration between multiple Swedish universities providing state-of-the-art research infrastructure with a focus on health and environmental research. SciLifeLab Campus Solna houses advanced resources in:

  • High-throughput DNA sequencing

  • Single-cell and spatial transcriptomics

  • Chemical and functional biology

Eligibility Requirements

  • PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area

  • At least two peer-reviewed original scientific publications as first or last author, in addition to the doctoral thesis

  • Priority to those awarded a PhD within seven years of the application deadline

  • Exceptions for earlier PhD holders with special circumstances (parental leave, illness, mandatory service, etc.)

  • Completion of three weeks of higher education pedagogical courses within two years after starting employment, unless equivalent training is certified

Candidates evaluated on:

  • Scientific excellence (greater emphasis)

  • Pedagogical skills

  • Research quality, originality, and feasibility of proposed research plan

  • Alignment of the application with SciLifeLab objectives

Assessment considers:

  • Peer-reviewed original articles

  • Articles intended for peer-review (in press, pre-prints, manuscript form)

  • Reviews, books, book chapters, protocols, datasets, code, patents


About the Employment

  • Based at SciLifeLab and one of KI’s 21 departments

  • Independent agreement with receiving department regarding employment terms and salary

  • Employment begins no later than 1 January 2027

  • Maximum six-year career development position

  • Funding for first five years provided by KI SciLifeLab SFO Program; sixth year funded by receiving department if no additional funding

Note: Applicants already employed as Assistant Professor at KI may only apply if employed for less than two years; previously used time will be deducted from total six-year period.
