The Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) of the University of Southern California (USC) and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) in the Department of Pediatrics, and Division of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP) are actively seeking a full-time faculty member for the position of Licensed Clinical Psychologist with an academic appointment of Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Practitioner) to join the Autism Center at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to provide evaluation and treatment services to patients.

The faculty would join our team of board-certified DBPs and interdisciplinary faculty and participate in the outpatient program to assess, diagnose, and treat mental, emotional, developmental, and behavioral health disorders.

The individual will lead a multi-disciplinary team comprised of a Speech-Language Pathologist and Occupational Therapist to conduct diagnostic evaluations of children/adolescents with suspected autism spectrum disorder and/or other neurodevelopmental disabilities. The individual may also provide individual therapy, family therapy and parent training to individuals. Therapy caseload will vary based on the psychologist’s clinical expertise and program areas of need.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing diagnostic evaluation services for children and adolescents with suspected autism and/or other neurodevelopmental disabilities. As the lead of a multi-disciplinary team, this includes:
    • Conducting the intake interview with the child and caregivers,
    • Clarifying the goals of the evaluation,
    • Helping to formulate the multi-disciplinary assessment plan,
    • Carrying out psychodiagnostics assessments (e.g. ADOS-2, cognitive assessment, standardized parent interviews),
    • Reviewing documentation and assessments from Regional Centers, schools and private therapists
    • Contributing to the diagnostic formulation, and
    • Leading the feedback discussion with the child and family
  • Providing individual, family, and group therapies, including intake assessments, development of treatment plans, provision of evidence-based treatment and case management.
  • Ensuring that documentation of clinical services is completed in a timely manner in the electronic medical record. Completes full evaluation reports for delivery to patient and family in a timely manner. Responds to patient communications and coordinates with other providers as necessary to provide patient care.
  • May provide teaching and consultative services to other professionals and health care trainees such as graduate students, residents, and psychology fellows.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements:

  • Required Doctoral Level License, Registration or Certification Required Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D., in School, Counseling, or Clinical Psychology; prefer education from an APA-accredited program.
  • Licensed in Psychology in California.
  • BLS Certification required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Clinical experience (5+ years) with individuals from early childhood through young adulthood (at least 22 years of age) and their families.
  • Clinical experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and other neurodevelopmental disorders and mental health comorbidities, such as anxiety and depression.
  • Expertise across all 5 modules of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2).
  • Familiar with standardized parent report measures of autism symptoms (e.g. ADI-R, CARS, SRS, SCQ).
  • Experience with developmental and cognitive assessments appropriate for children and adolescents of varying ages and abilities (e.g. Bayley-4, Mullen Scales of Early Learning, Wechsler tests, Leiter-3, Sanford Binet-5).
  • Well-versed in the implementation of evidence-based treatments.
  • Model high standards of professional, responsible, accountable, and ethical behavior.
  • Demonstrates positive and effective communication skills, including excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to negotiate multilayered regulatory systems, and manage competing priorities, and if unable to do so, ability to seek guidance from supervisor in a timely manner.
  • An approach to working with colleagues that enhances collaboration and team building.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
