The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences (SCMB) is seeking Casual academics for Semester 2, 2026.
Casual academics provide a rich and important contribution to the University’s academic, teaching, research, artistic, outreach and clinical endeavours through the provision of a range of academically focused services and activities.
In SCMB, Casual academics may be engaged to fulfil a wide range of duties, including (but not limited to):
across the disciplines of chemistry and the molecular biosciences.
Casual academics are remunerated according to the category of their duties, as detailed in UQ’s Enterprise Agreement and reiterated in this job profile.
Hours will vary according to the class timetable. Classes typically run:
on some or all of the weeks from 27 July to 30 October 2026.
A commitment is required for each week a course’s classes are held, although exceptions will be considered where explained in advance.
Training is provided, although discipline knowledge is a selection criterion.

These rates will increase by 2% after 30 June 2026.

You must possess at least an undergraduate degree majoring in the discipline in which you seek to deliver content.
You will either have relatively recent experience with the course material or a demonstrated capacity to become familiar with the material in a short time.

The selection process involves assessment of your application and sometimes an interview that includes a technical skills analysis.
Postdoctoral fellows and research assistants who already have an appointment at UQ will normally incorporate casual academic work into their duties by arrangement with their supervisor and not be paid additional casual rates, depending on individual circumstances such as employment fraction.
These are casual appointments. As such, there is no firm advance commitment to ongoing or indefinite work.
The casual rate will vary as per the work completed.
