Job Summary

Full-time faculty may have responsibilities in four areas: teaching, service, scholarship, and professional development. The time spent in each area is determined annually in consultation with the Program Head. Workload varies based on departmental and school needs.

  • Teaching: Undergraduate and graduate courses; course load considers credentials, program needs, course types, number of preparations, and number of students.
  • Service: Committee participation, course lead, mentoring, curriculum work, professional organization involvement, and other faculty responsibilities. Some service activities may include additional compensation.
  • Scholarship: Optional, developed in consultation with Dean, Associate Dean, or Program Head; may include research, publications, or professional presentations.
  • Professional Development: Minimum 8 hours annually required; additional professional development may count toward workload.

Faculty teaching typically comprises the majority of workload, with service, scholarship, and professional development balancing the remainder.


Responsibilities

  • Provide a student-centered learning environment enabling student success.
  • Report concerns regarding student progress and refer students to appropriate departments.
  • Assist in retention and outreach efforts, including contacting disengaged students.
  • Maintain open communication with students and university staff.
  • Participate in institutional assessment and program development.
  • Attend faculty meetings and continuous improvement sessions; serve on university committees.
  • Stay current with trends, techniques, and technology in nursing education.
  • Maintain accurate student records and grades.
  • Follow university style and accessibility guidelines in educational materials.

Experience & Qualifications

Required:

  • BSN minimum; MSN preferred.
  • 2–5 years nursing experience.
  • Minimum 2 years teaching or training experience (online teaching a plus).
  • Active, unencumbered RN and/or APRN license.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Brightspace LMS.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and Google applications.
  • Knowledge of databases, internet tools, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information discreetly.
  • Valid driver’s license in Iowa.

  • Target Salary: $80,000
