Job Description

The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the field of Zebrafish Models for Genetic and Metabolic Pathologies.

  • Appointment: Assistant Professor

  • Anticipated start date: July 1, 2026

Qualifications

  • PhD in Biological Sciences or related area

  • Minimum two years postdoctoral experience

  • Demonstrated excellence in research and teaching

  • Expertise in genetic and/or metabolic diseases/pathologies using zebrafish as the primary model organism

  • Ability to develop an innovative, independent, externally funded research program

  • Expected to build connections with the Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health (SAMIH) and the Scarborough Health Network (SHN)


Research and Teaching Expectations

  • Evidence of research excellence through:

    • Publications in top-ranked, field-relevant journals

    • Research statements, conference presentations, awards, and letters of reference

  • Evidence of teaching excellence through:

    • Teaching dossier including teaching statement, sample course materials, and evaluations

    • Experience as a teaching assistant, course instructor, leading workshops/seminars, student mentorship

  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) through research, teaching, and service

  • Submission of a 1-2 page EDI statement addressing contributions to diversity and inclusion


Salary

  • Range: $138,000 – $153,000 CAD per annum, depending on experience

  • Negotiations beyond this range may be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates
