These duties may span multiple academic disciplines. Casual Academics are remunerated according to the category of their duties, as detailed in UQ’s Enterprise Agreement and reiterated in this job profile.
If you are a current employee of the University, including current casual staff and HDR scholars, please log in to your staff Workday account and visit the internal careers board to apply for this opportunity.
Please do NOT apply via the external job board.
Before applying, please familiarise yourself with the Semester 1 timetable to ensure you will be available to tutor for what has been scheduled.

Please note that these opportunities are subject to The University’s Code of Conduct.
Each course is delivered differently. Please familiarise yourself with the course before preferencing.
We strongly recommend reaching out to the Course Coordinator to discuss course details before applying.
If you have skills that are relevant to a particular course (e.g., quantitative/technical skills or in-depth content knowledge), please note this when applying.
All new casual academics are required to attend a Tutor Orientation on Friday 13 February from 10.00am to 12.00pm.
New casual academics who do not attend will not be given an appointment.
Casual academics need to be available for at least half of the tutorials on offer for their preferred courses; otherwise, we may not be able to offer you a position.
To undertake tutoring, you must be available for the entire semester, from Week 1 through to Grade Release.
New casual academics are also expected to attend Faculty Tutor Training, which comprises two sessions during O Week. More information will be provided following the release of appointments.
We use a rating system to assist in allocating tutors to courses. When rating the courses that are on offer, please remember that the more courses you rate (1 to 4 stars), the greater your chance of being allocated to a course.
4 – I would love to teach this subject
3 – I would be happy to teach this subject
2 – I would not mind teaching this subject
1 – I would rather not teach this subject
0 – I would rather not tutor than teach this subject
The minimum allocation load for most courses is 2 tutorials. Tutorials are either 1 or 2 hours long.
Tutors will be paid as per the casual academic salary scale via a predetermined schedule. Payments will vary week to week depending on the course schedule.
These are casual appointments. As such, there is no firm advance commitment to ongoing or indefinite work.
The casual rate will vary according to the work completed.
