Assistant Professorof Electrical Engineering

Royal Institute of Technology

Subject Field

Integrated semiconductor devices and chip technologies.

Subject Description

The subject area covers material and process technology for the manufacturing of integrated devices, circuits, and systems—both at the chip level and in packaged solutions—from a broad perspective. This includes, for example, co-integration of electrical and photonic functionality in communication, memory, and power applications. The research is experimental in nature and aims to improve the functionality and performance of semiconductor devices as well as related system applications. Both fundamental and applied scientific questions are addressed.

The Division of Electronics and Embedded Systems conducts research in areas such as heterogeneous III‑V/CMOS integration within the competence center Advanced Chip Technologies (ACT), and SiC-based power electronics within the EU Wide Bandgap Pilot Line. The appointed assistant professor is expected to contribute to at least one of these research areas.

Duties

  • Teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

  • Carry out independent research.

  • Perform administrative duties.

  • Contribute actively to the operations and development of the cleanroom infrastructure at KTH’s Electrum Laboratory, including method development, deployment, and optimization of process flows and strategies for semiconductor devices and integrated circuits in cooperation with academic and industrial actors and laboratory staff.

  • Be familiar with related materials and device analysis.

  • Develop independence as a researcher and gain accreditation to take other teaching positions with higher eligibility requirements (Chapter 4, Section 12 a of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance).

  • Eligible to apply for promotion to associate professor (Chapter 4, Section 12 c of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance).

Eligibility

  • Candidates must have completed a doctorate or equivalent scientific competence.

  • Preference given to candidates who completed qualifications within seven years of the application deadline.

  • Special consideration may be given for reasons such as illness or parental leave.

Assessment Criteria

Highest importance:

  • Scientific expertise demonstrated through publications, conference participation, research cooperation, and community service (e.g., reviewer, expert).

  • Potential for higher teaching positions, including independent development as researcher and teacher and ability to establish and develop the research area.

  • Interest and capability to develop advanced process technologies in the Electrum Laboratory and MyFab network. Experience with cleanroom R&D in academia, research institutes, or industry is highly meritorious.

Second-highest importance:

  • Postdoctoral experience at a different research environment than the doctoral institution. Industrial R&D experience may be considered equivalent.

  • Interest and competence in pedagogical development and ability to plan and conduct teaching in Swedish or English.

  • Capability to collaborate with industrial R&D organizations.

  • Awareness and interest in academic leadership, external collaboration, diversity, and equal opportunity (particularly gender equality).

Additional considerations:

  • Administrative expertise.

  • Pedagogical training in higher education or equivalent experience.

Special grounds for promotion to associate professor:

  • Teaching ability in Swedish is a significant merit.
