Assistant Professorship in Process Engineering of Electrochemical Systems

Darmstadt University of Technology Department of Mechanical Engineering

Technische Universität Darmstadt invites applications for an

Assistant Professorship (W2, Tenure Track) - Process Engineering of Electrochemical Systems

in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date.

We are looking for an excellent researcher with international renown in research of electrochemical processes for innovative and sustainable energy conversion and process engineering. The research is expected to follow a holistic approach investigating electrochemical processes at a system level that are characterized by high innovation potential in the fields of energy industry, mobility, or process engineering. Examples are accumulators, electrolysers (power-to-X), (photo-)electrolytic catalysis, redox flow batteries or fuel cells. Building particularly on experimental methods, most relevant thermo-fluid processes and their mutual interactions, such as coupled reaction-transport processes, are expected to be investigated. The research concept should integrate findings from fundamental science and transfer these findings into the research, development and construction of innovative electrochemical systems of the future. Numerical simulation tools, mathematical models and design methods should be utilized for the development and design of electrochemical systems to accompany the experimental research concept without being the primary research target.

A degree in engineering or natural sciences followed by an outstanding doctorate is required. The position holder will participate appropriately in the teaching duties of the Bachelor's and Master's programs of the Department of Mechanical Engineering as well as interdepartmental programs. This requires not only scientific qualifications but also special didactic skills. Very good English and - at the latest by the mid-term review - very good German language skills are expected. In addition, the ability and willingness to cooperate on an interdisciplinary basis and to participate in university self-administration is required.

Remuneration follows the German W-Besoldung at level W2 Hessisches Besoldungsgesetz. The position is initially limited to six years. The assistant professorship is designated as a qualification professorship according to § 70 HHG (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz); accordingly, the maximum period of scientific activities during and after the doctorate generally shall not exceed nine years or the scientific activity after the doctorate shall not exceed four years.

The position comes with the option of a tenured professorship after a successfully completed tenure process. The tenure process, which can be initiated one and a half years before the end of the assistant professorship, evaluates the corresponding achievements in research and teaching. After a successful probationary phase, the immediate transition to a tenured professorship is granted. For further information, please see the tenure guidelines of Technische Universität Darmstadt.

Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female faculty members and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Technische Universität Darmstadt is certified as a family-friendly university and offers a dual career program.

Applications should be sent with the usual documents, in particular curriculum vitae, list of publications, overview of previous teaching activities (including teaching evaluations) and description of scientific activities, quoting the identification number below, to the Dean of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Otto-Berndt-Strasse 2, D-64287 Darmstadt, preferably in electronic form (one single PDF file) to the e-mail:
