Part time Assistant Professorship at Department of Psychology, University of Copenhagen combined with a position as Clinical Psychologist at Mental Health Services – Capital Region of Denmark

The Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Copenhagen, invites applications for a part time 4-year Assistant Professorship in clinical psychology. The position is available from 1. August 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position is combined with a part time 4- year clinical position at the Mental Health Services, Capital Region of Denmark.

The assistant professor has a part time employment (60%) as Assistant Professor of Clinical Research at Department of Psychology, University of Copenhagen and a part time (40%) position as clinical psychologist at either Psychiatric Center Ballerup, Psychiatric Center Copenhagen, Psychotherapeutic Center Stolpegård or Child- and Adolescent Psychiatric Center.

The position includes as default 40% research, 20% teaching and 40% clinical employment.

The research position is shared between Mental Health Services – Capital Region of Denmark and Department of Psychology. The teaching obligations are linked to Department of Psychology. The position includes achievement of University Pedagogy for assistant professors (adjunktpædagogikum) as part of the 20% teaching. The clinical position is linked to Mental Health Services – Capital Region of Denmark.

With this position Department of Psychology, University of Copenhagen wishes to strengthen the collaboration with Mental Health Services, Capital Region of Denmark.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the assistant professorship and the clinical position.

In collaboration with other disciplines, clinical psychology can contribute to a cross-disciplinary approach to psychopathology including a focus on developmental and dimensional aspects on mental disorder and mental health. This is in line with current interests in international research in general.

Focus for the Assistant Professorship of Clinical Research will be psychological research within the psychiatric area, for the benefit of psychiatric patients. This could for example be to explore psychotherapy in relation to curative mechanisms, patient characteristics, positive and negative treatment effects and predictors for outcome. Another possible area could be early identification and intervention, including psycho-social interventions.

A prerequisite for employment is a research profile in accordance with research interests within Mental Health Services –Capital Region of Denmark and Department of Psychology, University of Copenhagen


To be qualified for the position the applicant must have a PhD in Psychology or equivalent academic qualifications.

Further emphasis will be put on the applicant´s qualifications and competence in relation to:

  • proven interests in the field of mental illness and mental health in accordance with research interests within Region Hovedstadens Psykiatri and Department of Psychology, University of Copenhagen
  • proven competence in scientific methodological skills
  • a strong publication record documenting the potential to deliver high quality peer-reviewed research publications;
  • competence to teach relevant courses in appropriate areas of psychology at undergraduate and/or master level.

Job description

General duties attached to the position as Assistant Professor are:

  • Research within the field of mental illness and mental health
  • Teaching, supervision and examination of undergraduate and post-graduate students
  • Administrative tasks related to the position as Assistant Professor
  • Knowledge sharing with the rest of the society

Conditions of employment

Terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The current annual salary as Assistant Professor is within the range of DKK 415,857 – 437,842 depending on seniority. In addition to the salary paid directly, the University will also pay a monthly contribution to the pension fund corresponding to 17.1 % of the salary.   • Documentation of teaching experience and evaluation, supervisory activities and pedagogical training (if any).
  • Documentation of the ability to disseminate information to and share knowledge with society at large (if available).
  • A tentative research plan for the next 4 years.
  • If publications marked by an asterisk (*) are the result of a joint effort, the extent and the nature of the applicant’s contribution to each individual work must be clarified in the application, and if possible, a declaration from the co-authors or the head of the institution or office at which the work was completed should be enclosed as well.
