Position Description
We seek an experienced scientist to advance our research at the University of California, Los Angeles Department of Neurology in the laboratory of Dr. Golshani.

Dr. Golshani’s laboratory studies how large groups of neurons in the cerebral cortex synchronize their activity patterns and to drive cognition, in particular working memory and attentional selection. We use imaging and electrophysiology methods coupled with optogenetics to study the activity patterns of thousands of neurons simultaneously and then modulate their activity patterns to understand how the causally drive cognition. We use models of neuropsychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders to discover how key circuit elements malfunction to drive cognitive deficits.

Specific Responsibilities
Responsibilities of this position include study design, data acquisition, statistical computation, and literature review and manuscript/grant preparation.

Qualifications
Applicants must have a PhD or MD or both. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in the following areas: calcium imaging, behavior, electrophysiology, rodent surgery, and data analysis.

Applicants must have experience with the use of two-photon imaging, optogenetics, animal behavioral assessments, data analysis and statistics.

Additional Duties
• Ability to work on multiple projects efficiently and effectively.• Ability to work independently on scientific projects• Required to communicate well with other scientists.• Candidate should have 5 years research experience in neuroscience in an academic setting or equivalent. • The candidate will report directly to the Principal Investigator and will successfully carry out experiments and analyze the data generated with minimal supervision.
