The University of Queensland Rural Clinical School (UQRCS) envisages securing a self-sustaining medical workforce for regional Queensland through excellence in medical education, research and community service.  With a footprint encompassing the greater part of central and western regional Queensland, the Rural Clinical School comprises four clinical sites – Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Hervey Bay and Toowoomba. Significant investment in people and training infrastructure at each site provides the operational focus for a network of smaller clinical training locations in host communities across the state.  With a recurrent budget of up to $9 million per annum provided through the Australian Government’s Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) program and a capital works portfolio in excess of $20 million, UQRCS is a substantial enterprise.

About This Opportunity

As Assistant Research Technician the primary purpose of this role is to provide direct research assistance to the Supervisor, facilitating research that aims to improve the health and wellbeing of Indigenous Australians.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Assist in the recruitment and consenting of research participants by maintaining case files in accordance with study protocols, University policy and statutory requirements. Training will be provided
• Assist in data collection, management and analysis in accordance with study protocols, University policy and statutory requirements
• Maintain accurate and up to date files and/or records in accordance with study protocols, University policy and national legislation
• Report feedback and consent information to the lead Chief Investigator

This position is primarily based at our Rural Clinical School - Toowoomba. Roughly 125 km west of Brisbane, Toowoomba is a dynamic regional town with a population of more than 100,000 people. As the main centre for the Darling Downs Region, it’s a hub for industry, commerce, education and health.

Known as the Garden City, Toowoomba enjoys four distinct seasons. The town has a rich heritage and lively culture, playing host to numerous major cultural and sporting events throughout the year. It’s also the perfect place to sample the region’s abundant local produce.

Our Ideal Candidate

Alongside the completion of Year 12 or a Certificate II, with relevant work experience in the areas of health sciences, epidemiology; or an equivalent combination of relevant work experience and training, the successful applicant will demonstrate:

• An understanding of and experience working with Indigenous Australians in a research environment, with the ability to establish and assist in research projects
• Experience with the application of research methods
• A strong orientation to the provision of a high level of service with a particular emphasis on the achievement of outcomes
• Experience with data management and analysis methods
• Organisational, administrative and time management skills
• High level verbal and written communication skills

This is a part-time (0.6 FTE), 8 month fixed term position, at HEW Level 3.

The full-time equivalent base salary is $58,005- $63,991, plus super of up to 17% (total package available will be in the range $67,866 - $74,869).
