Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a position in the area of Social Genomics, beginning August 2022. Social Genomics is a field of research that integrates theories, data, and methods across the social, behavioral, health, and genetic sciences. This position is the final of three hires in this area and is part of an interdisciplinary cluster hiring initiaive (https://facstaff.provost.wisc.edu/cluster-hiring-initiative/), designed to foster innovative, outstanding research programs that will stimulate productive interactions among faculty and students interested in the integration of genetics and social science research across the campus and to expand interdisciplinary research in this area.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a vigorous, cutting-edge, highly visible, and interdisciplinary research program that specializes in integrating genomic methods within the social, behavioral, and health sciences. We are especially interested in candidates pursing research that focus on clinical, social and/or policy implications that stem from using genomic data. Research programs may include (but are not limited to) innovative uses of polygenic scores for clinical prediction and/or treatment tailoring; leveraging genomic information along with behavioral or neuroimaging data to guide the development of new interventions for clinical populations; combining social and genetic epidemiology to answer population health questions; social epigenomic research.

Principal Duties:
The candidate will be expected to advise graduate and post-graduate research in the area of social genomics; develop and maintain extramural funding for their research program; and teach graduate and undergraduate courses and develop new courses in their area of expertise, as appropriate. Faculty hired under this initiative will have primary faculty appointments in a campus departments in fields related to social genomics, particularly Population Health Sciences and/or Psychology, and will become affiliates with some set of interdisciplinary centers and institutes across campus, such as the Center for the Demography of Health and Aging, the Center for Demography and Ecology, the Institute for Research on Poverty, Waisman Center, the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery, and the Center for Human Genomics and Precision Medicine. Instruction and research leadership and participation in faculty governance at the department level are expected. University and community service will also be expected as appropriate.

Degree and Area of Specialization:
PhD or equivalent in psychology, public health, genetic epidemiology or related discipline as described below.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
Candidates must combine genetics/genomics and social/health/behavioral science in their research.

Additional Information:
