Job Description

The Department of Food Science at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Food Science (general area), with preference for candidates specializing in one or more of the following areas: Plant-based food products Cultured and fermented food products Food technology and processing Precision fermentation and advanced bioprocessing Food chemistry and safety The successful candidate is expected to: Develop and maintain an internationally recognized research program aligned with UAEU’s strategic priorities in food security, sustainability, and innovation. Publish high-quality research in leading peer-reviewed journals and secure competitive external research funding. Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in food science and related disciplines. Supervise MSc and PhD students and contribute to the development of graduate research programs. Contribute to curriculum development, program accreditation, and continuous academic quality improvement. Participate actively in departmental, college, and university administrative duties, including committee work, academic advising, and program coordination as assigned. Contribute to community engagement, professional service, and outreach activities that enhance the visibility and impact of the Department of Food Science. Establish and maintain strong collaborations with industry partners and international research institutions.

Minimum Qualification

PhD degree in Food Science or a closely related discipline. Strong record of peer-reviewed publications in reputable indexed journals. Demonstrated research activity and scholarly output within the last three years. Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. Ability to supervise graduate students.

Preferred Qualification

Specialization in plant-based foods, cultured/fermented foods, food technology, or precision fermentation. Strong and sustained publication record with a competitive h-index relative to career stage. Proven ability to secure competitive research funding. Experience in advanced analytical techniques and modern food processing technologies. Established national or international research collaborations. Experience in industry engagement or translational research.

Assistant Professor: Early-career researcher with demonstrated research excellence and high-impact publications. Clear evidence of independent research potential. Active research output in the past three years. Associate Professor: Established researcher with a strong publication record and sustained research productivity. Competitive h-index and citation profile. Demonstrated success in securing research grants. Proven supervision of graduate students and leadership in research projects. Required Skills: Expertise in plant-based product development, fermentation technologies, or precision bioprocessing. Strong analytical, statistical, and experimental design skills. Excellent communication skills in English. Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams aligned with food security and sustainability initiatives.
