Position Details

Position Description

Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) and the School of Medicine at the University of Washington (UW) is seeking candidates for one full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor without tenure by reason of funding in the faculty-scientist pathway. This position will be based at the Veterans Health Administration and patient care efforts will occur at the VA Puget Sound. This position is paid directly by the VA and does not include UW salary support. Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments and Associate and Full Professors hold indefinite appointments. This position's appointment aligns with a 12-month (July 1 – June 30) service period. Rank is commensurate with experience and qualifications. We anticipate the hire to take place in Summer 2022. Depending on their qualifications, the successful candidate will be appointed in one of the following departments: Department of Medicine, Neurology, Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, or Rehabilitation Medicine.

The successful candidate will direct the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at VAPSHCS. The GRECC is an interdisciplinary center of excellence in gerontology & geriatric medicine with strong research, education, and clinical programs in neurodegenerative disease, endocrinology, and other aging-related areas. The successful candidate would be expected to promote and enhance the GRECC mission by fostering collaboration within and outside GRECC, supporting career development of trainees and faculty, and advancing the research enterprise through their own research program and support of other GRECC investigators. A senior academic clinician with training and experience from fields relevant to geriatrics who have demonstrated ability to work productively with a multi-specialty group of clinical and basic scientists are particularly encouraged to apply.  The GRECC Director position is supported by a VA hard-line salary and institutional support, including competitive start-up resources and laboratory space, to promote the candidate’s long-term success. Our department offers a highly collegial and collaborative culture, with diverse interdisciplinary research ties across campus. We encourage applications from women and underrepresented minority candidates, individuals with disabilities, and protected Veterans.  Salary and academic appointment will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold an MD or DO or foreign equivalent. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens (permanent residents may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens). Positive factors for consideration include but are not limited to strong academic leadership and mentorship skills, commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, experience with clinical teaching programs, and prior scientific accomplishments that include interdisciplinary or collaborative programs and a vital, funded research program.
