UQ’s School of Economics is a leading provider of economics education in Australia, and ranks in the top 50 among Economics departments worldwide for its research.

Located on the St Lucia campus as part of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, the School is home to more than 2100 domestic and international students, 14 professional staff and 60 active teaching and research staff. Its accomplished scholars claim a large share of Australia’s economics honours, national teaching awards, competitive research grants, fellowships, publications and media coverage. The School also has an established research centre and an active seminar and visitor program, providing exposure to researchers from around the world.

About This Opportunity

You will achieve and maintain a record of publications in world leading and internationally excellent journals in Microeconomic Theory or Macroeconomic Theory. You will demonstrate a capacity for research leadership in either Microeconomic Theory or Macroeconomic Theory. Your continued development of national and international profile in research in addition to demonstrated success in securing external research funding, will form a key component as your role within the School. As a senior staff member of the school, you will make a strong contribution to the governance and collegial life of the institution which includes mentoring junior academics and researchers; and the supervision of Research Degree Higher students successfully. 

You will engage as an Associate Professor in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision and further development of the School’s programs. Demonstrating leadership in teaching and learning, you will be responsible for successful coordination of a significant aspect of a program, or a significant contribution to the development or coordination of teaching in the School. With an ability to teach across different settings and engaging in face-to-face, online and/or blended modes of teaching preparation and delivery; the Associate Professor in Economics will contribute to continuous improvement of curriculum, teaching resources and approaches.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Our Ideal Candidate

With expert knowledge in areas relevant to economics, you will demonstrate an established track record of publishing in world leading and internationally journals in one or more areas of Micro or Macro Economic Theory. Evidence of international recognition for your research contributions to the field; combined with your high-quality teaching record and evidence of significant teaching innovation and leadership, is integral. 

As the Associate Professor in Economics and a senior staff member of the School, you should demonstrate prior experience in leading course and program developments or other teaching innovations, as well as evidence of your innate ability to engage in successful outcome-orientated partnerships at the university and community level. The roles demands a strong ability to balance demands in teaching, research and other services activities in addition to your appreciation of the aims of the School and the University.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, continuing position at Academic level D. 

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $146,824.75 - $161,756.46 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $187,918.05 - $207,028.85.  A market loading may also be included where appropriate.

Our Selection Process

As part of the Selection Process, applicants shortlisted for interview will be required to present a research seminar to members of the school community prior to their scheduled interview. Details on the research seminar will be provided with adequate notice to shortlisted candidates.
