The Department of Mathematics conducts education at undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels in mathematics. The department is responsible for teaching mathematics and mathematical statistics to a number of different programs at both undergraduate and graduate level: several different engineering programs, teacher’s programs, bachelor programs in the different areas of the faculty, as well as our own programs – the bachelor and master’s program in mathematics. The department has about 120 employees. The number of annual students at the undergraduate and graduate level is about 600. The research of the department is divided into three research programs: analysis and probability theory, algebra and geometry, and applied mathematics and statistics. We now want to strengthen our research and teaching within the program of Analysis and Probability Theory.

Description of subject area of the employment: The subject area is mathematics with a specialization in homogeneous dynamics. We are interested in applicants who strengthen the research group in Dynamical Systems and Number Theory in the department, in particular concerning the study of homogeneous dynamics and its connections with representation theory of Lie groups and with number theory.

In assessing research expertise research quality must be the prime consideration. The scope of research, primarily in regard to depth and breadth, must also be afforded consideration. In assessing research expertise special weight will be attached to research merits in homogeneous dynamics, representation theory of Lie groups, and number theory.

Furthermore, consideration must be given to the capacity to plan, initiate, lead, and develop research and education in the third cycle, the ability to acquire funding for research in competition, as well as the demonstrated capacity to interact with others both within academia and in the wider community.

Teaching Expertise comprises educational and teaching qualifications. This expertise can have been achieved outside the academy through supervision, internal training, mentoring programs, etc. In assessing teaching expertise teaching quality must be the prime consideration. The scope of teaching experience, in terms of both breadth and depth, must also be afforded consideration. In assessing teaching expertise special weight will be attached to merits in mathematics.

Furthermore, consideration must be given to the capacity to plan, initiate, lead, and develop teaching and instruction, as well as the ability to connect research to teaching in respect to research in the subject at hand, subject didactics, as well as teaching and learning in higher education. The ability to interact concerning issues of teaching and learning in higher education with actors inside and outside the University is also included in teaching expertise.
