About the Role

The Department of Philosophy seeks to appoint a Teaching Associate with expertise in metaphysics, continental philosophy, and philosophy and mortality.

This fixed-term, full-time post runs from 31 January 2026 to 30 January 2027.

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Spring semester: Contribute to teaching and assessment for the Level 1 module Mind, Knowledge, and Ethics (Ethics), and supervise/assess some undergraduate dissertations.

  • Autumn semester: Convene and teach some or all of the undergraduate modules:

    • Metaphysics, Science, and Language (Level 1, 10 credits)

    • Continental Philosophy (Level 2, 20 credits)

    • Philosophy and Mortality (Level 3, 20 credits)

  • Responsible for assessment in each module, marking coursework and/or exams as appropriate.

  • Adapt and edit course materials from previous years to suit your teaching approach.

  • Provide pastoral support to students and contribute to departmental administration.

Essential Requirements:

  • PhD in Philosophy (awarded or to be awarded by the time of appointment).

  • Excellent track record of delivering quality teaching to undergraduate students.

  • Teaching experience in at least some of the required areas.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and engage in professional development related to teaching.
