The Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education (KPE) at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in Sociocultural Studies of Physical Activity and Health at the rank of Associate Professor, beginning July 1, 2026.
This search aligns with the University’s Statement on Equity, Diversity & Excellence and commitment to addressing historical and ongoing inequities. Preference will be given to candidates who self-identify as Indigenous, as part of the University’s response to Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission. “Indigenous” is used broadly to encompass First Nations, Métis, Inuk (Inuit), Alaska Native, Native American, and Native Hawaiian peoples.
Applicants must have:
A Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Kinesiology or a relevant field in the social sciences (e.g., sociology, health studies, cultural studies, gender studies, critical race studies, Indigenous studies, queer studies, disability studies, media studies, policy studies).
A demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching.
Experience or training in intersectional and anti-oppression approaches (strongly preferred).
The successful candidate will have an established international reputation and be expected to:
Maintain an independent, innovative, and externally funded research program.
Publish in top-tier journals and present at major conferences.
Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
Contribute to teaching across the Faculty’s programs.
Participate in Faculty and University service and governance.
Evidence of research excellence includes:
A strong record of publications, funding, conference presentations, or policy/practice impact.
A research statement outlining current and future directions.
Strong letters of reference from scholars of high standing.
Evidence of teaching excellence includes:
Demonstrated teaching accomplishments.
A comprehensive teaching dossier, including a statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi, and teaching evaluations.
Supportive letters of reference.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
