Associate Professor/Professor of Nursing

  • Full time, fixed term position for 5 years
  • Based in Hobart at the School of Nursing and Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH)
  • Partner with the University of Tasmania and Tasmanian Health Service (THS)

The College of Health & Medicine incorporates the School of Medicine, School of Health Sciences, School of Nursing, Menzies Institute for Medical Research and Wicking Dementia and Research Education Centre. The School of Nursing is home to both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and is Australia’s largest provider of online postgraduate nursing education.  

The Opportunity

The University of Tasmania and Tasmanian Health Service are seeking to appoint an Associate Professor or Professor who will lead, facilitate, and evaluate practice development related to clinical excellence. The successful incumbent will show strong academic and clinical leadership towards transforming Health Service and University engagement across this jointly funded position, with the opportunity to drive strategic commitment in collaboration with both partners.  

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership in nursing.
  • Lead and contribute to the RHH/THS and School, achieving high-quality translational research of international standing.
  • Provide exemplary academic leadership to achieve high-level objectives.
  • Provide leadership and foster a culture in line with University values and behaviours.
  • Provide leadership in the development and maintenance of transformative relationships and partnerships.


Your Application

To be successful in the role, your application will need to demonstrate;

  • A PhD in Nursing or a relevant health discipline.
  • Registration as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • A strong record in team building and creating effective working relationships.
  • Capacity to deliver on clinical excellence.
  • Ability to innovate in practice and to form productive research.
  • Capacity to build and maintain transformative relationships.
  • Academic and clinical leadership.


Academic Level D – Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level D and will have a total remuneration package of up to $180,837 comprising base salary within the range of $142,538 to $154,562 plus 17% superannuation

Academic Level E - Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level E and will have a total remuneration package of up to $196,860 comprising base salary of $176,256 to $179,781 plus 9.5% superannuation.
