The Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, at the Institute of Medicine, conducts translational research primarily on metabolism, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease in order to improve health and healthcare in the community. The overall goal is to create an excellent translational research environment of a very high international standard.

Up to 90% of the cells in the human body are of microbial origin. We have demonstrated that the gut microbiota may have profound effects on host metabolism and physiology by combining gnotobiotic animal models with clinical material.

Job assignments

The current position primarily involves work with conventional and gnotobiotic mice. The work includes breeding, metabolic characterization and surgery. The work will also include some work with different human and murine cell lines.


The applicant must have a bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, biomedicine or equivalent. Experience of working with gnotobiotic mice and surgery in mice is a requirement. Previous experience with cannulation of lymphatic vessels in mice is a merit. Great emphasis will be placed in personal suitability.
