The School of Business, Economics and Law offers a unique breadth, with over 3 700 full-time students, 470 staff members, 160 international partner universities, four departments and three main subject areas – business, economics and law. The uniqueness is manifested in the School’s close collaboration with trade, industry and the public sector. The School of Business, Economics and Law is accredited by EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA and is thereby the only Triple Crown-accredited business school in Sweden.

The Department of Business Administration is the largest department at the School of Business, Economics and Law and carries out extensive research and education in the areas of business administration and economic geography. With 150 employees, the department is divided into four sections: Industrial and Financial Management & Logistics, Management & Organization, Marketing, and Accounting.

Specific subject description

The position is located at the Marketing section at the Department of Business administration at the School of Business, Economics and Law. The marketing research group has a strong tradition of research on the relationship between consumption, markets and society from different theoretical perspectives using different methodological approaches. Education is conducted at bachelor level, within the master program "Marketing and Consumption" and in the doctoral program.

The position is connected to a research initiative within the Centre for Retailing (CFR). The research at CFR examines retailing issues with a particular focus on digitalization, sustainability and mobility.

The applicant shall contribute to the project ”Digital platforms and retail transformation” at CFR. The project studies the digitalization and retail transformation, exploring the emergence, development and impact of digital retail platforms on consumer behaviors, business models and market changes.

Work assignments

A position as associate senior lecturer constitutes an initial step in a career development system. The work consists of approximately 50 % teaching and 50 % research. Research will be carried out within the above described project. The applicant is expected to work in a cross-disciplinary team and be interested in collaborating with researchers from other academic fields. Teaching will be carried out at undergraduate and master level, primarily within marketing and retailing.

Eligibility

Eligibility criteria for employment as teacher are specified in Chapter 4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100), and in Gothenburg University’s Appointment procedures (V 2018/161) and in the Appointment procedures the School of Business, Economics and Law's  (V 2018/224).

According to Chapter 4, Sections 12a and 12b of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100), an associate senior lecturer may be employed fixed-term for a minimum of 4 years, to enable her or him to develop research autonomy and acquire qualifications required for eligibility for appointment to another teaching post for which more advanced qualifications are required. The appointment may be extended due to illness, parental leave or other special grounds if additional time is needed to fulfill the purpose of the appointment.

To qualify for employment as associate senior lecturer, individuals shall have been awarded a PhD or have attained equivalent research qualifications prior to the date of application. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research qualifications no more than five years prior to the application deadline. Those awarded a PhD more than five years ago should also be given preference if special grounds apply, such as leave of absence from work or studies due to illness, service in the defense forces, an elected position in a trade union/student organization, parental leave or similar circumstances

Assessment

The assessment of applicants is guided by Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100) and Gothenburg University’s Appointment procedure (V 2018/161) and Appointment procedures of the School of Business, Economics and Law (V2018/224).

The applicant should be chosen who, based on an overall assessment of competence and potential for development, is judged to have the best qualities for performing the duties included in the appointment. Equal weight will be given to pedagogical and research skills. For the advertised position, we are looking for a person with documented teaching and research experience in the field of business administration with a focus on marketing. The applicant must have a strong ability to administrate and carry out teaching activities. Experience of research and teaching within digitalization and retailing are considered particularly important qualifications. Ability to establish and develop collaborations within education and research will also be considered. Knowledge of a Scandinavian language is also considered an important qualification because of the interviews and collaborations that will be part of the project.

As associate senior lecturer may apply for promotion to senior lecturer. During and within 3.5 years of the date of employment, the holder of the position is expected to have acquired, or to almost have acquired, the pedagogical and research qualifications required for appointment to associate professor (in Swedish: docent)]. If the associate senior lecturer is assessed as qualified for appointment to associate professor and found otherwise suitable to hold a permanent position, he or she shall be appointed to, and offered a permanent position as, senior lecturer.

The appointment process will involve expert assessments, interviews and trial lectures.
