The Departments of Medicine at St. Michael's Hospital and University of Toronto are seeking an academic cardiologist with advanced training in cardiac electrophysiology (EP) and who is an internationally recognized clinician-scientist with an established research program in the area of personalized medicine, focusing on next generation sequencing, computational modeling, and stem cell disease modeling and drug screening.  This position will also support the large demands for cardiac EP procedure and participate in the educational programs in Cardiology at St. Michael’s Hospital and the University of Toronto. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto and will be the recipient of an endowed Chair for a 5-year term, renewable once upon successful review. The expected start date is July 1, 2024, or shortly thereafter.


The successful candidate will hold an MD degree and should have, or be eligible for, certification in Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).  The successful candidate must have proven clinical excellence in cardiac electrophysiology, including complex (Afib) ablation, device (pacemaker, defibrillator) implantation and management, acute inpatient care and ambulatory care, and a strong track record in research including peer-reviewed grants and publications commensurate with their academic rank. The successful candidate will also have a Master’s degree or PhD, and as a clinician scientist will devote appropriate time for research. The successful candidate will report to the Head, Division of Cardiology at St. Michael’s Hospital. The Division currently consists of 26 full time cardiologists and provides comprehensive cardiac care including interventional cardiology, interventional electrophysiology, and non-invasive programs including cardiac imaging, and patient care (ambulatory care, coronary intensive care and clinical teaching units). Members of the Division are internationally recognized in both clinical and basic research, and participate fully in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs at the University of Toronto.


Estimated remuneration will be commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience, and is conservatively estimated to be in the range of $400,000 to $500,000 CDN per annum based on fee for service billings and an annual payout from the endowed Chair of approximately $70,000 CDN. While the candidate holds the Chair, there will also be research operational supports. A comprehensive extended health and dental benefit program is included.  The successful candidate may be eligible for relocation benefits.
