About the Position

The Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, together with the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health, invite applications for the position of Academic Hepatologist within the Toronto Centre for Liver Disease at Toronto General Hospital, UHN.

This appointment is for a five-year term, renewable following a successful review, and is supported by the Francis-Lecker Chair in Liver Research.

The anticipated start date is 1 January 2027, or as mutually agreed.

Position Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

• Join the full-time academic faculty as a Clinician Scientist at University Health Network.
• Provide comprehensive care to ambulatory and hospitalized patients with liver disease.
• Conduct an established and impactful clinical and/or translational research program.
• Complement existing strengths within the Toronto Centre for Liver Disease and/or develop emerging areas of academic excellence.
• Expand the academic hepatology program through research leadership.
• Foster interdisciplinary collaborations.
• Lead investigator-initiated clinical trials.
• Lead industry-sponsored clinical trials.
• Conduct innovative translational liver disease research.
• Contribute to the continued clinical and academic growth of UHN's high-volume liver disease program.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have:

• An MD degree, or equivalent.
• Residency and subspecialty training in Hepatology.
• Demonstrated expertise in the management of acute and chronic liver disease.
• A distinguished record of scholarly achievement in liver disease research.
• A compelling vision for advancing academic and clinical hepatology.
• A graduate degree (MSc, PhD, or equivalent).
• An established and impactful clinical and/or translational research program.
• Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent qualifications that permit eligibility for practice in Ontario.
• Current licensure, or eligibility for licensure, with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
• Proficiency in English.

Appointment

• Academic rank (Associate Professor or Full Professor) will be based on qualifications, experience, and scholarly achievements.
• Appointment is for five years, renewable following a successful review.

Compensation

• Minimum annual income: CAD $350,000.
• Compensation is derived from:Overall compensation will be highly competitive and consistent with senior academic hepatologists in Ontario.
  • Fee-for-service clinical practice.
  • Salary support through the Francis-Lecker Chair in Liver Research.
