Position title: Neuropathology Scientist
Salary range: $145,500 – $309,800 (base pay). Salary is negotiated annually. Additional compensation may be available through the Health Sciences Compensation Plan.

The Department of Neurosciences at UC San Diego (neurosciences.ucsd.edu) is recruiting a Neuropathology Scientist committed to academic excellence and diversity.
UC San Diego has one of the longest-funded Alzheimer’s Disease Research Centers, with internationally recognized programs in basic and clinical research into the causes, effects, and treatments of Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative disorders.
Collaborations include the Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study (ADCS), Salk Institute, The Scripps Research Institute, and the Sanford-Burnham-Prebys Medical Discovery Institute.
The successful candidate will be an integral partner in the Department of Neurosciences and the Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.
Responsibilities include leading and contributing to research initiatives and providing high-quality teaching.
Candidate may be proposed for an endowed chair if research aligns with donor intent.
Appointment series:
50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding, or
100% Ladder Rank
Note: As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, outside professional activities are limited, and clinical moonlighting is prohibited. Policy details (APM-671).
Basic qualifications (required at time of application):
PhD in Neurology or related fields, and/or MD (or equivalent).
Minimum 5 years of experience in basic or translational neuroscience research in aging, neurodegeneration, and Alzheimer’s disease.
At least 5 years of experience in one or more of the following:
Neuropathology
Neuroscience
Neurobiology
Genetics
Alzheimer’s disease-related biomarkers
Demonstrated research excellence: sustained grant funding and peer-reviewed publications.
