Position Summary

Indiana University Kokomo is seeking an innovative, dynamic, and proven leader to serve as the Dean of the School of Business. The AACSB accredited School offers an MBA program, as well as a Bachelor of Science with majors in accounting, finance, management, human resources, and marketing, and is part of a collaborative online degree program in Business Administration offered by the regional campuses of Indiana University. The School of Business also houses degree programs in Hospitality and Tourism Management, Sport and Recreation Management, Public Administration and Health Management, and Applied Science. Finally, the school assists Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA US) in developing its own future leaders by offering an MBA cohort program to employees of five FCA plants in the region.

One of eight Indiana University campuses, IU Kokomo is a comprehensive non-residential campus located in Kokomo, a city with a population of about 47,000, 50 miles north of Indianapolis, Indiana. The campus serves more than 3200 students from an 11-county area in north central Indiana, as well as numerous other states and countries. The School of Business is a member of the SAP Education Alliance.

Recently ranked among the top regional campuses in the Midwest, IU Kokomo is developing a national reputation for its commitment to student success. Since 2016, fall-to-fall retention for first-time beginners has risen 10 percentage points. Enrollment is up nearly 9 percent since fall 2016. Home to a new Student Activities and Events Center (completed and opened this year) and a recently renovated Main Building, IU Kokomo is known in the IU community for its lovely campus, spirit of innovation, and can-do attitude.

Highly engaged in the KEY (“Kokomo Experience and You”), IU Kokomo’s campus-wide experiential-learning initiative, the School of Business provides its students with numerous opportunities to engage in internships, community projects, study abroad, and dozens of domestic trips, including educational visits to the Chicago Board of Trade, Disney World, Churchill Downs, and numerous Indiana businesses.

The Dean of the School of Business reports directly to the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The Dean’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Foster a climate of academic excellence.
• Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and collegiality within the School of Business.
• Demonstrate leadership mindset and bring strong interpersonal skills, as well as sense of fairness and respect. Connect with diverse backgrounds and foster a sense of relatability within the School of Business.
• Provide all financial oversight and monitor School accounts to ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance with university, state, federal, and professional standards.
• Provide leadership for the undergraduate, MBA, and online business programs, the Hospitality and Tourism Management program, the Public Administration and Health Management program, the Sport and Recreation Management program, and the Applied Science program.
• Provide visionary and collaborative leadership in programming, research, teaching, and service ensuring compliance with accreditation standards of the Association for the Advancement of Colleges and Schools of Business (AACSB).
• Lead and work collaboratively with faculty and staff in the process of continuous improvement of all activities and programs to ensure successful maintenance of accreditation with the Association for the Advancement of Colleges and Schools of Business (AACSB).
• Provide support and direction for faculty during hiring, tenure, promotion, and performance evaluation processes. Provide support for professional growth and development of all the faculty and staff.
• Foster relationships with business and industry to ensure academic programmatic alignment with the labor market needs.
• Recommend the appointment, salary, annual performance evaluations, promotion, and tenure for faculty members.
• Conduct annual performance evaluations for staff members.
• Monitor trends in business education and identifies opportunities to strengthen programming, improve curriculum, and bring innovation.
• Identify, develop, and coordinate external strategic partnerships.
• Lead the process of developing and implementing the strategic plan for the School.

Basic Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: To be considered for the position a candidate must:
• have earned a doctorate in one of the disciplines taught at IU Kokomo’s School of Business from a university with AACSB accreditation
• be academically and professionally qualified according to the standards of the School of Business in the area in which the candidate will teach
• have a record in teaching, service, and scholarship commensurate with appointment to full professor (tenure is subject to approval by IU’s Board of Trustees)
• have administrative experience in higher-ed at the level of department chair or above
• have experience with AACSB accreditation
• show a commitment to:
o shared governance and collaboration
o servant leadership
o diversity, equity, and inclusion
o academic excellence and student success
o regional economic development
• show evidence or promise of success in:
o obtaining external funding including gifts, grants, and/or contracts and in the development and maintenance of positive working relationships with businesses, donors, alumni, faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders
o curriculum development, program expansion, student recruitment and retention, faculty recruitment and development, and fiscal management

Preferred Qualification: Preference will be given to candidates that hold an MBA degree in addition to their terminal degree.
