We are now looking for a

Doctoral Student for Intelligent Mobility and Logistics

to join the Faculty of Technology at the University of Oulu. The position is based in Structures and Construction Technology Research Unit and the research team of Infrastructure & Transport.

The duties and tasks of the Doctoral Student will be associated with a 4-year European research project AURORAL (Architecture for Unified Regional and Open digital ecosystems for Rural Areas Large scale applications). Specifically, there will be concrete project tasks related to project work packages and dissemination activities (website, newsletters, etc.). The Doctoral Student will also be expected to complete studies and research aiming for a degree of Doctor of Science (Technology) within the Doctoral Programme of Civil Engineering. Studies and research for the doctoral degree include research data collection, analysis of data and publishing the results in peer-reviewed journals. Other duties include teaching undergraduate courses (approx. 5 % of the 1612 annual working time) and other projects.

To succeed in the position the candidate is required to have good basic knowledge of the field and a completed MSc degree (transport engineering, industrial engineering, computer or information sciences, business or economics, or similar). The project tasks require adequate skills in website design and hosting as well as being active in developing those skills. The candidate must have a proficient command of both written and spoken English. The candidate is expected to contribute to the work of other project team members, and therefore teamwork and collaboration skills are essential. The candidate can expect good support for his/her own work from the surrounding team and will be able to contribute to teaching activities depending on the candidate’s motivation and capabilities.

The salary will be based on the levels 2 - 4 (2 200 EUR/month - 3 100 €/month) of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. The level will be decided according to applicant’s qualifications and experience. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component).
