Company Description
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
Job Description
Introduction
Are you willing to coordinate exciting experiments and new technical developments in mass separation of medical radionuclides?
MEDICIS separated its first radioisotope beams to dispatch implanted radionuclide sources to external research biomedical institutes in 2018. Since then, important breakthroughs in isotope mass separation techniques led to pioneer research experiments in the rising field of targeted therapies in nuclear medicine, culminating in a starting European consortium PRISMAP that federates the principal accelerator and neutron facilities producing non-conventional biomedical research radionuclides (medicis.cern, www.prismap.eu).
As MEDICIS and PRISMAP experimental program coordinator, you will join the Accelerator Systems Department (SY), which is responsible for the beam-related technical systems of the CERN accelerators. The SY teams design, build and operate equipment systems in all CERN accelerators, and are engaged in ambitious forward-looking R&D programmes.
MEDICIS is part of the CERN Accelerator Complex and receives more than 50% of the total CERN protons received from the PSBooster, to the leading nuclear physics facility ISOLDE. PRISMAP is a project managing a consortium of large-scale medical isotope facilities triggered by MEDICIS, and funded in the H2020 program of the European Commission.
You will be working within the STI Group, which holds a broad expertise on the interaction of beams with matter and applies its know-how to a large spectrum of activities including particle production, beam intercepting devices, studies on beam-matter interaction and nuclear engineering. You will be in the RBS Section, which manages the technical coordination of the infrastructures, develops the targets and ion sources for radioactive ion beam productions and manages a class A work sector for nuclear material handling.
