About University

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Guangzhou (GZ) campus was established in 2022. The new campus in Guangzhou is pioneering a thematic and cross-disciplinary academic structure, complementing our HKUST Clear Water Bay campus in Hong Kong. About IoT Thrust

The Internet of Things (IoT) Thrust is an academic department in HKUST (GZ). We specialise in research and teaching related to all aspects of IoT and digital societies, e.g., communications, machine learning, cybersecurity, human computer interaction, IoT sensors/actuators, IoT microelectronics, and IoT applications.

We seek to appoint multiple exceptional tenure-track or tenured faculty, at any rank (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor). These appointments will be research intensive, with very significant financial support for hiring students and research staff. Internationalisation is at our core, and we therefore also offer substantial funds to support international travel and outreach.

The IoT Thrust is currently composed of 21 full time faculty, who regularly publish in major top-tier journals and conferences, such as SIGCOMM, SIGMETRICS, INFOCOM, NSDI, WWW, CHI, JSAC, CCS, USENIX Security, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking etc.

Expected Qualifications & Requirements

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree and work in one or more areas related to the IoT Thrust. Areas of interest include but are not limited to:

Ÿ  Sensors/actuators; embedded systems; microelectronics

Ÿ  Artificial intelligence; data science; machine learning; optimization

Ÿ  Security and privacy-enhancing technologies

Ÿ  Metaverse technologies; human-computer interaction

Ÿ  Distributed computing and systems; wireless communications; computer networking

Ÿ  IoT applications

Candidates should demonstrate outstanding research potential, and should be able to contribute to our growing multi-disciplinary curriculum.

Ÿ  Applicants for tenure-track Assistant Professor should demonstrate strong research and teaching potential.

Ÿ  Applicants for Associate Professor should have a proven record in research, teaching, student supervision, and funding.

Ÿ  Applicants for Professor should have world-class academic achievements, international academic leadership, and an established track record in teaching, student supervision, and funding.

Note, English is the medium of instruction and administration and therefore candidates should have excellent oral and written English language skills.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary is highly competitive of international standard and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The monthly starting salary (RMB) for each position is as follows:

  • Professor: 120,000
  • Associate Professor: 90,000
  • Assistant Professor: 72,000

 

Generous research funds, ample laboratory space and excellent research equipment and support will be provided. All posts are tenure-track appointments in Chinese Mainland and to be offered by the HKUST(GZ) in accordance with the local employment laws and regulations.

Terms of Contract

The appointment to Professor or some Associate Professor will be made on substantive (tenured) basis. The appointments to tenure-track Assistant Professor and Associate Professor without tenure will be made on an initial fixed-term contract of three years with the option for renewal.
