About IoT Thrust
The Internet of Things (IoT) Thrust is an academic department in HKUST (GZ). We specialise in research and teaching related to all aspects of IoT and digital societies, e.g., communications, machine learning, cybersecurity, human computer interaction, sensors.
We seek to appoint multiple exceptional tenure-track or tenured faculty, at any rank (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor). These appointments will be research intensive, with significant financial support for hiring students and research staff. Internationalisation is at our core, and we therefore also offer substantial funds to support international travel and outreach.
The IoT Thrust is currently composed of 21 full time faculty, who regularly publish in major top-tier journals and conferences, such as SIGCOMM, SIGMETRICS, INFOCOM, NSDI, WWW, CHI, JSAC, CCS, USENIX Security, IEEE Transactions in Wireless Communications, IEEE/ACM Transactions in Networking etc.

Expected Qualifications & Requirements
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree and work in one or more areas related to the IoT Thrust. We are particularly keen to hire faculty with expertise in:
Sensors; embedded systems; IoT devices
Artificial intelligence; data science; machine learning; optimization
Security and privacy-enhancing technologies
Metaverse technologies; human-computer interaction
Distributed computing and systems; wireless communications; computer networking
IoT applications
Candidates should demonstrate outstanding research potential, and should be able to contribute to our growing multi-disciplinary curriculum.
Applicants for tenure-track Assistant Professor should demonstrate strong research and teaching potentials.
Applicants for Associate Professor should have a proven record in research, teaching, student supervision, and funding.
Applicants for Professor should have world-class academic achievements, international academic leadership, and an established track record in teaching, student supervision and funding.
Note, English is the medium of instruction and administration and therefore candidates should have excellent oral and written English language skills.

Terms of Contract
The appointment to Professor or some Associate Professor will be made on substantive (tenured) basis. The appointments to tenure-track Assistant Professor and Associate Professor without tenure will be made on an initial fixed-term contract of three years with the option for renewal.
