Full Professor of Physical Chemistry

at pay grade W 3 (minimum salary per month: 7,217 euros) to commence on 1 July 2022. This is a permanent civil service position.

We are looking for a scholar with an international track record in the synthesis and characterization of colloidal materials. In addition to preparative work, the focus will be on aspects of structural and functional characterization, also with regard to applications. The usage of scattering methods is especially welcome. A willingness and ability to acquire third-party funding, also in coordinated programmes, must be evident.

The successful applicant will be expected to play an active and leading role in the field of physical chemistry and in the Bayreuth Centre for Colloids & Interfaces. Cooperation within the context of the University of Bayreuth's existing interdisciplinary focus areas and research institutes is expected; this especially applies to the focus areas Polymer & Colloid Research and Advanced Materials, as well as the research centres the Bavarian Polymer Institute, Bavarian Centre for Battery Technology, and the Northern Bavarian NMR Centre.

The postholder will represent the subject of physical chemistry in the bachelor's programmes Chemistry, Polymer & Colloid Chemistry, and Biochemistry, in the master's programmes Polymer Science and Materials Chemistry & Catalysis, as well as other relevant degree programmes at the University of Bayreuth across their entire spectrum. The ability to teach in English and German is expected.

In addition to the general administrative requirements, prerequisites for this position are a university degree, a doctoral degree, proven excellence in teaching, and a post-doctoral qualification to teach at a professorial level (Habilitation). Alternatively, evidence of equivalent scholarly achievement, for example as a junior professor or in a non-university environment, will also be considered.  Only applicants who are 51 years of age or younger can be hired as civil servants. Exceptions will only be made if there are urgent reasons for doing so.
